Why does the sun lighten our hair, but darken our skin?

It lighten's our hair because it bleaches the color from it. It darkens our skin because melanin is the pigment that gives our skin it's color, and in response to the sun's ray our skin produces more melonin.

I don't know, but I do know that Shan is wrong. Black absorbs light while white reflects. That is why they tell you on hot sunny days to wear white or light color clothes if you are going to be in the sun, so your clothes do not absorbs heat and cause you to be over heated.

because of ultra violet rays. In hot sun black color dress or umbrella reflects the sun, since our hair is black is reflects.

Skin will not reflects the uv rays so we are getting darker on our skin tone
