Hi, I haven't ridden in like 15 yrs. but I'm about to start again. My last pair of boots were Tony Lama ropers. Since I'm a little outta touch after so long I'm wondering what does everyone wear now. Lace ups, plain ropers, Ariats, Justins, etc. ?

I'm just riding for fun - maybe a little trail riding.

Ropers are classic boots that are always in style...Fashion changes but the classics are well just that Classic...

Seriously though wear what is most comfortable.

My vote goes to Ariat. They are a little expensive, but they are the most comfortable and durrable boots I've owned. I own both a pair of zip up paddocks and a pair of pullon ropers. I wear the ropers everyday and am on my feet all day. I love them, my feet never hurt.

I ride hunt seat and usually wear paddock boots, either zip or lace whichever you prefer with a pair of half chaps. The few times I do ride western, I have a pair of Justin lacers that I wear with my jeans. I also have a pair of Ariat Terrain Lace boots, which are really comfy, to wear around the stable and I ride in them occasionally. Just get something you are comfortable in and something that is approved for riding in. Check out www.statelinetack.com. I usually buy most of my riding gear from them. They have affordable prices on current equipment.

It depends on what you feel comfortable in and how much "other stuff" you'll be doing. I personally wear Ariat Terrains (the lace up hiking boot types), Ariat Cobalts (their "professional model" paddock boot) or my comfy old field boots. If I'm doing alot of barn chores, I prefer the Terrains. If I'm going to be teaching, working with students and riding, I do the Cobalts. If I'm just riding I wear the Cobalts or the field boots. I hope this helps, even though they're not 'western' boots as the other styles are. Have fun getting back into riding.

If you ride English saddle you only need paddock boots and some half-chaps. I love the Ariat brand, but it's all personal fit and preference. Definitely go to a tack shop and try on a few different brands. But don't feel like you have to break the bank with a pair of competition show boots when all you need are paddock boots. Good luck.

If your gonna ride english but only for pleasure (ex-trail riding) then you may just wanna get some half chaps instead of breeches. I like the Ariat brand because of just my preferences because they fit my wide feet comfortably but you may wanna go down to the local tack shop and try some different boots on.

Ropers or paddock boots are just fine for the casual rider. I prefer 1/2 chaps and paddock boots whenever I am out for a hack or in the arena.

If your riding english everyone is wearing ariats. If your into weatern the most that I've seen is lace ups or justins. It doesn't really matter that much.

I wear plain lace-ups. I got a nice pair at the tack store for $40 and a cheap pair at walmart for $10. As long as they've got the heel on them, you're fine.

The main thing is what you are comfortable with. We ride and train horses I wear Justin lace ups my husband and daughter both prefer the slip ons. Go find the ones you like and are comfortable to you and the heck with what others think and wear. It is your feet
