iAudio X5L (not the regular X5). I have one (without upgraded firmware) and it's awesome. It's great for music, but the video support is mediocre (you can play video, but only after converting it to a small resolution .avi file that plays at 15 fps, it's not too bad but...). I'd recommend only using video on it for things like music videos and short clips, but not full length feature films. The battery life is great (I typically get 25+ hours between charges, and that's not with continuous play). It also has a ton of other features, such as custom wallpapers, photo storage, a built-in FM radio tuner (you can record FM radio, also), voice recorder, a clock feature, alarm (that's saved my *** a few times, I'll tell ya). There's also a secondary USB port on it that you can connect other devices to, such as a digital camera (you have to go to the iAudio site to see which models are supported though). Then you can transfer photos over to your mp3 player, essentially giving you a ton more storage space for any photos you take while travelling. And it also serves as an external harddrive, if you want to backup important files on it or whatnot.
The only gripes I have are that the backlight doesn't function right unless you update the firmware (which might cause more problems with the player so I don't recommend doing it). The backlight still comes on as it should, but you can't adjust how long it remains on. The other gripe is that you need an adapter to connect it to the PC or AC adapter. This isn't too much of a problem, the adapter comes with the set and it's easy to use, but I imagine it could be easy to lose... You just have to be careful with where you place it.
Anyway, I have the 30 GB model and as I said, it works like a charm. It costs $260 at NewEgg.

It really depends on what you are wanting to do with it, but I can tell you that the iPod is limited to iTunes only so unless you are a huge iTunes fan...., I have an RCA LYRA with a 2GB SD card in it and it holds all of the songs I want at one time because I change them quite often and I can take the card out and use it other places, the new Microsoft 30GB one looks to be a good deal you can use it with multipule jukeboxes not limited to iTunes, so Creative, RCA, Samsung, or Microsoft is my suggestions
