News flash cuz, it is. Don't get me wrong I like a buzz just as much as the next person. The truth is that cannabis is mentally addictive. It is not addictive enough to cause a person to go out and steal from a loved one or do something stupid to get it, but you will find yourself craving a buzz if you smoke it everyday and then run out, and have to go without any for a few days. The most that can happen is you may be a little irritable, but hell I know a lot of people that are irritable even without jonzin for a buzz. I think the thing to be worried about is how the THC causes a memory problem.

It's not addictive in the same way as nicotine - that is, the body develops a dependency and a physical craving. It's addictive like alcohol - that is, some people can walk away and some people can become emotionally dependent. (and I know alcohol can involve chemical dependency as well, but it will serve to illustrate.) If you smoke at all, you probably have that f*cked up stoner friend who can't do anything but get high. I know I do! And, just as a negative side note, besides from the fact that she can't hold a job or follow any of her dreams, after smoking pot for over forty years she's also having to get false teeth because of the damage the smoking has caused.

I have heard people say the same thing, but the tobacco you put the cannabis into is addictive. Putting in the drug when you want to smoke can become habit forming.

Habbit and addiction are psycologically linked so even though you are correct unless you smoke pure cannabis there will be the addictive nature of the tobacco to deal with, and everyone knows that is a killer.

Everything in moderation.....

Cannabis has not been proven to be 'physically' addictive in itself as in it does not contain any chemical elements that are known addictives. However there are 2 reasons why it can be considered to be addictive. 1 is that it is often smoked with tobacco which is known to be highly addictive and 2 it is psychologically and/or emotionally addictive. In other words people become hooked on the way it makes them feel or how it 'helps' them to relax, to cope with life, to forget their stresses and worries. In essence anything that can alter or enhance your mood can be considered addictive for this 2nd reason.

Ignorant fool. I had a friend at college who dropped out six weeks before the end, because her cannabis smoking had got out of hand. For all I know she's probably back on cocaine, or graduated to heroin

Sorry to have to tell you this, but the addiction (yes, the ADDICTION!) is psychological, and users will need more, or stronger cannabis to get high, the more they take it.

Although I will admit it is not as addictive as heroin, or legal substances such as nicotine or alcohol, but it is still damned dangerous.

Good luck, you twunt. You'll need it! =P

I think it depends very much on a persons tolerance of a substance really. I did pot/weed for some 32 years and came off it with no cravings, problems or "need"-i gave it up because my body just said "enough, thats it, we're finished with this now". Also, i never once wanted to try other drugs, i was quite happy with my weed, so i think that when some people say that it is a stepping stone to coke/heroin for pot/weed users, they are may be talking about some people who have a low tolerance to ANY drug...and not all pot/weed takers. I wish i could give up smoking my roll-ups as easy as gave up the gear though:-/

It IS Addictive! Its psychological addiction rather than physical.
You dont get withdrawal symptoms but it is hard to stop for some!
It is a strong drug and should be used with caution! Young people are in real danger and the adverts aren't lying! Even in older people it can make you paranoid! I've used it on and off for many years and am not addicted to it but I know lots of people who are!!

While it is addictive and I think it does major upsets to emotions, I do think people have a right to put whatever they want into their bodies. Now I don't think the rest of us should have to pick of the pieces or help them free themselves from an addiction.

If it is the only thing in the whole world that is not addictive I would be very surprised.
Cheese - addictive
Sugar - addictive
Salt - addictive
Music - addictive
Exercises - addictive
Sex - addictive
Alcohol - addictive
Physical pain - addictive
Nearly everything is addictive - why is cannabis the one exception to this.

They think it's addictive because they've never tried and/or used it. Those that claim to have become addicted to it are FEW and far between and must have irregularly, highly addictive personalities.

I smoked it for more years than I care to remember but haven't smoked for almost 2 years now. I have never had "withdrawal symptoms" from lack of THC. I did notice that my short term memory improved when I stopped.
