in that it is US's new "crusade"
they're trying to get the spotlight away from what's happening in they're country and in the mean time destroying another.
I know some will say something needed to be done about Saddam, but, hello?? The US president was the one who put him into power and who let him get away with all that he had been doing for soo long. Not to mention, they went in under false pretences.

Similar yet too many differences to make it comparable to Vietnam. If th government ever decided to start a military draft, then it would be more comparable to Vietnam. Also Vietnam was about fighting communism, this was about getting rid of a dictator. In Vietnam we had a large military, over a one million soldiers because of the draft, in Iraq are military is about 200,000 soldiers. The Iraq situatin, however, could end up like Vietnam for us, yet it could have a lot worse after effects. The middle east region is boiling and all hell could break loose between the two relgious groups, the Shia and the Sunnis. Iraq could be a lot worse for this country than Vietnam ever was.

Iraq is the new Iraq.

Unlike Vietnam people are behind the troops. Also you see some rallies but nothing like the protests of the Vietnam era...people just talk about these days. I think it is because we are all so desensitized and living in our own little bubbles. We have our opinions and never act on them (myself included).

Iraq is a new type of war as well. We are not fighting communism like Vietnam...we are fight terrorists, insurgents, and there is no real clear cut goal other then saying we are going to restore order to the country and hand it over.

Of course both wars are similar in the terms of exit strategy...there is no clear cut plan, or at least one that our leaders are willing to share with the American people.

2 differant wars-

"The new Vietnam"? the old one is still there as far as I know, if what you mean are thousands of G.I's going to needlessly lose there lives for a country who want to meddle with a country that dont want to be helped I would say no, Vietnam did want to be helped.

But in both cases the gung ho Yankee doodles will leave with egg on there face!!

Vietnam didn't have the oil reserves that Iraq has. The good old U.S.of A have yet again made a huge boo boo...look at their history...it's been repeated over and over again.

Iraq is not the new Vietnam.

It's going to be far worse than that, just wait and see?
