Ok so...
Depression is obviously a problem...
(I am working my way out of depression so I know how you feel)
So what is the first step in an alcoholics or drug addicts correction of their problem??
Admitting it!
Obviously you know this, but you need to embrace it.
And laugh about it to!! lol, YAY your depressed!
Tell friends and family, people who won't look down on you, that you are previously and somewhat currently depressed and that you are trying to change it and improve.
Although they probably already know... you are then openly acknowledging it.
This is the first step in improving your self esteem - acknowledging what created it. And it may be a chicken or the egg scenario... but acknowledging these things really helps.
Now what can you actively do to improve your self esteem??
Go outside your normal box.
You need to learn to do something new that you've never done before. And you have to do it on your own.
Take up rock climbing or any new art, hobby, sport etc... and stick with it. You have to realize the importance of yourself. And when you succeed in something, it greatly increases your mentality of what you can do.
In social situations, I find myself being around people, but not talking to them.
Talking to random people in social situations is a great way to improve yourself esteem.
What do you talk about?? Ask them about themselves. Where do they work, where were they born... they'll tell you something ( ex: "I work at KERTH 101.1 FM" ) and from that something you will be able to continue the conversation... (" I love that radio station! What do you do there?") etc etc... take something they say and use that as the fire for your next question...
And don't make them feel interrogated... but don't worry cause most people like talking about themselves

Find something you are interested in and set a goal for yourself to do that thing. Then give yourself credit when you achieve that goals.
But what caused you to have low self esteem to begin with? If you were raised in an abusive, or alcoholic family situation like I was, then I reccomend readin the book Codependent No More by: Melodie Beattie. It talks a lot about how we let others tell us how to feel and think

Ok well...being a girl i know that what a girl looks for in a guy is confidence..without self esteem you never put youself out there and where does that get you. so lets say you do put yourself out there and you get rejected....you are still in the same position where you started so what is there to lose really?.....

Go to the mall. Buy new clothes. Put them on and walk on the street, where people know you.
Get a drink at a nice place. Call a friend.

Find out who God says you are, what He thinks of you. Once you know that you are a child of the almighty God, nothing else can phase you. Find your security in Him, or you'll always be searching.
