I'm curious of others peoples fears and why they fear them. Is the fear appropriate? Meaning, does it consume you, cause anxiety or just when it occurs?

I am deathly afraid of cockroaches! I have no idea why, because other bugs don't bother me at all, but I can't even kill a cockroach with a shoe, because I'm so afraid of it. It's not like a fear of them hurting me, but they are just so disguesting and greasy! Also I hate when people talk about veins and blood. It makes me squeamish and once I passed out!

The biggest fear I've had in my life is rejection from people. I know how the fear got there, I was raised by alcoholics who made me feel like the black sheep of the family. I also changed schools a lot (16 times) and always had trouble fitting in. I moved around and was always "the new girl". I was labled a nerd in JR hs. When I did find someone in HS who was the first person who said they loved me (I mean my parents may have said it but their actions said otherwise) I kept expecting this person to find a reason to reject me. I kept expecting the relationship to fail. And in a way I pre-empted the relationship because my fear was driving me nuts. I think I lost the only guy I ever really truly loved. I wanted to get back with him in the years to come, but I was too afraid he would reject me. So I ultimately lost him.

I had a lot of boyfriends after him who abused and took advantage of me. I also had an uncle who sexually abused me between ages 5-7,

So not only have I lived with a fear of rejection, but also a fear of men. I'm 32 years old and just this year am dealing with all this stuff. Its no way to live your life. It sucks.

How do you undo the emotional damage your dysfunctional family caused? You read self-help books, you go to therapy and you pray.

YOu learn to accept love from other people, and you learn to give love to other people.

You learn not to base your self-worth on what other people think of you, but on what your creator, God thinks of you. And you realize that he does have a purpose for your life after all.

Maybe someday you yourself can help another person who has been through what you have, and inspiration to be their true selves.

I'm afraid of needles. When I was 5 and got my booster shots, a hard lump appeared where they shot me. It stayed there and it grew, eventually being diagnosed as a tumor. It caused me pain and limited my movement throughout my life. When I see needles I get anxious and start to breathe quicker. I have only passed out because of this one time. :)

My little brain associated the 2 things, I don't know if I was right. Shots mean something bad is going to happen next.

I'm afraid of the world running out of oxygen, or gravity giving out and we all fly upwards. I'm also afraid of planes crashing into my house, and people breaking into my house and stabbing me to death. Amongst other fears. No idea why I fear these things, I just do. I lose sleep over fearing of these things at night.

i fear heights. driving too high on a mountain can give me some anxiety. i almost had a full anxiety attack when i went to a football game and had to sit way up high in the stadium. once i calmed down and got used to the environment that i was in, i was OK.

for me, it's fear first then anxiety pops in and makes things worse.

My greatest fear is to be falsly accused of a capital crime and sentenced to death-row. I shiver when I think about it.

If that ever happens, I will kill myself by ramming my head into a wall.

Fear is a personal weakness that must be overcome with strength of will.
