The constitution establishes all kinds of limits on who Americans can elect. There are age requirements associated with federal elected positions. A president can only serve two terms. A president also must be born in America.

So why not entertain the notion of establishing term limits on Congress?

The people (voters) have the right to impose term limits at any time by removing someone from office. There are certain congressmen who are very effective and develop expertise and act honorably who deserve re-election and the people of their state want them returned to office. I would agree that as a matter of personal integrity a Senator should consider not running again after two terms (that's 12 years) and a Representative should not run after a 6-8 years (2 years per term). There is value in new ideas, new energy, but the question of whether limits should be legally imposed is not necessarily as great an idea as it might seem on the surface.

Yes, that is an excellent question.

We get a new president every 4 or 8 years. Too many senators and congressmen have been in office for decades.

Democrats: Kennedy since 1962, Byrd since 1958, Biden since 1968, Akaka since 1960.

Republicans: Hatch, Domenici, Roberts since 1978.

And those are just the senators.

We need congressional term limits!!

We have voted for term limits several times however since the majority of congressmen are also lawyers and friends with every judge on the planet; they keep throwing that 'decision' the voters have agreed upon into courts to be passed around until the the initiative grows a beard and dies of old age.

The short answer is No to term limits. I think any law that restricts a person's right to participate in his government is wrong and interferes with an individual's basic right of free choice. But, I do think each voter should have the self-imposed responsibility to place their own restrictions and limitations as to whom he elects.

Moreover, participation in the government is a privilege always to be held in the highest regard; and therefore should only be awarded to genuine patriots. Elected and appointed officials of the government should only have the rights of each and every individual citizen in mind when making governmental decisions. That is why we go to the voting booth. It sounds so simple doesn't it?

certain, One 3 365 days time period, and for Senators, one 5 365 days time period. And there might want to not be an election, yet a range, all eligible voters in a congressional district have their names put in a huge bin, and get the severe human being to occupy the place of work to entice a attractiveness out of the bin, at random. Make it a civic responsibility. the in elementary words those who must be exempt ( of the eligible voters) must be absolutely everyone who has already performed another style of civic responsibility, like city council, mayor etc.

I agree 100%, the problem is, look who's in charge of changing those rules?????!!!!!

They know that they will have to surrender power and they will never allow such a thing....they are too comfortable living the ultra plush lifestyle and doing nothing for the people!!!

i believe that all term limits should be 1 term, nobody should be re-elected, ever. we should always have fresh faces in offices and new ideas.
