You all need to look at the bigger picture. Marijuana law reform is happening in the US all the time. just recently Nevada changed it's laws from felony possession over an ounce having a mandatory fine of $10000 and up to 1 year in prison to simply a fine of up to $1000. Mexico has it right, legalize the drug, let the people make their choices and focus on busting the dealers. I want marijuana to be legal, but I also know it is a slow process, but one that WILL happen. It will certainly happen within 100 years.

My wife and I both believe marijuana should be legalized. We believe this because of one reason:
In June of this year, I was contacted by Children and Youth Services(CYS) for stupid reasons. They said we would have to have monthly drug tests. We agreed and told them we smoke but not in the presence of our children. They were tested as well. Passed every time! Well, we obviously failed and they didn't care. Our case was dismissed 3 weeks ago!
So if CYS feels that they can drop a case because two stoners proved their ability to raise and maintain a two and four year old girl, it should be legal for everyone. Not just for medicinal purposes. As a great way to catch a "buzz" and maintain sanity.
Enough said.

Every major study of the drug laws in the last 100 years has said that the marijuana laws were based on racism, ignorance, and nonsense. They all said that marijuana use should not be a crime. See Major Studies of Drugs and Drug Policy at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer
Jack's book is quite interesting but I disagree with him on the idea of a conspiracy between Hearst, Anslinger, and DuPont to make marijuana illegal. See http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/hemp_conspiracy.htm

It's not gonna happen, not in a 100 years. There is too much involved. What good is marijuana for? Glaucoma, cancer, multiple sclerosis, migraines, tyroidal problems. First off, If you're just learning that marijuana is good for these illnesses and you are for legalization, you're a stoner who just wants an excuse to toke. Second, there already is a whole bunch of different medications and treatments for each and every one of these illnesses. Third, major reason, and you'll find that every supporter that is also a stoner will agree with me, the best marijuana is NOT produced in the U.S., and the pharmaceutical industry being a very powerful one just below the oil industry in the states, try to get them to import their drugs instead of trying to sell you their own.
Sorry I haven't read the book, but my guess is you're better off now that you haven't read it yet. Peace.

It should be allowed for recreational as well as medical use. The pharmaceutical companies will do everything they can to make sure that doesn't happen, though.
