Usually pruning will encourage new side growth but new growth will not occur where old branches were. Those areas are dead as far as new branches are concerned. It helps if you begin this process early in the plant's life.

I consider pygmy date hands seem fine. If you have a high celing that you may grow a canary island date palm additionally windmill arms grow best indoors and stay very small but seem like a palm tree at a younger age. Additionally in a sheltered spot subsequent to your apartment far from wind, needle palms can actualy continue to exist winters outside in ohio if close the southen border or the exceptional lakes area. Needle fingers can live to tell the tale zero fahenheit its first iciness if planted in the spring, and by its 2nd winter can live on to -5. Through its 1/3 winter it could live on to -10 and the more winters it survives the more cold tollerant. Probably the most it can surivive is -20 so it is extremely cold tollerant and likes sizzling summers making it a great palm for the ohio area
