So, I'm moving from the Bronx, NY to Portland and I need to get work. Temping, however, isn't going to cut it since I'll need to be making a lot more so I can pay rent and electricity, food, the works. I went to a 5 day drilling course on bartending, got the books and certificate, have the equipment and a stocked bar at home, but have never worked in an actual bar. I've saved up about a month and a half of rent and am putting the move on a credit card? Since I know bartending's fun and a good way to make some cash, I just need to know what's the best way to get a bartending job in Portland.

Your bars have applications? Wow, NYC bars are quite different indeed. So, the managers and owners of Portland bars actually give you forms to fill out first, like regular jobs?

Go to the bar, get an application, fill it out, and give it back.

The best way to get ANY job ANYWHERE is
a) to be qualified for it
b) to apply for the job at a place that is hiring.

Portland is no exception to this universal rule.
