If you are a EU citizen, then your ID is enough as both Germany and the Czech Republic belong to the EU; if you are from some other country, then you´ll need a passport.

It is always a good idea to carry your passport within the EU. You can be stopped and asked for ID at anytime. It ain't like the USA.

If you're german your national id card is sufficient.
Otherwise you'll need a passport. I don't know wether
other national id cards are accepted or not.

if you are an american, you will need a passport, for germans some border guards will ask for pasport but others just for i d card, other nationalities need passports and visas.

i think it is always better to carry your passport with you when ever you go to a different country. even if it for a short period time (day or less). you never know what will happen
