Yes I did,and just like you I passed. At the time I didn't really know what it was for and ended up quite disappointed that the grammer school that I attended was an all boys grammer school with the all girls school 3 and a half miles away!
Well done on passing and hope you enjoy the grammer school.

Yes . I did when I was 10 in 1957 . In those days everyone had to do it . If you passed you were considered to be in the top 20 %( I think ) of the population in intelligence . and this qualified you to go to the grammar school and probably on to higher education .If you failed you had to go to the secondary school which prepared you for a less academic future . You might learn more about skills like woodwork and typing but you still had to learn maths and English etc . I'm not sure how true it is but I was once told that girls had to get higher marks than boys to pass otherwise too many girls would pass compared to boys . You might think that that means we girls are more intelligent than boys but , sorry girls , I think it might be that boys develop later or perhaps they play too much football ! I n the sixties the government decided to scrap the 11 + and introduced comprehansive schools so all boys and girls had equal opportunities . Some school opted to keep the 11+ and that is why we still have some grammar schools left , many of these are private fee paying schools . In northern I reland I believe they still have 11 + and in some areas of England . Congratulations on passing . Well done ! I hope you get the school of your choice . I bet your parents are very proud of you .

I did the 11+ in 1969 and I had to do it in Welsh as I went to a Welsh primary school. I passed and then went on to an English secondary school and had real problems the first year as I didn't know a lot of stuff in English.

Yes I did it in 1959 and came joint top in the city in which I live. I only found out because the mother of the other boy who came first with me had a husband who worked in the council education department. I had a horrible time at grammar school and left at 15 (after my father died) with 2 O-Levels. I have since gained a BA (Hons) and an MA in Philosophy. It hasn't turned out so bad really! PS I sat a test with Mensa in 1980 and found out that I have an IQ of 136.
