Yes. Sony's PS3 is backword compatible with all other Play Station systems. It is the ultimate PS. I just hope they fix their production problems so that everyone can get one.

While the vast majority of PS2 and PS1 titles work on the new PS3, the system is not 100% backward compatible. Some of the stand out games that do not work properly on the new system are several titles from the Final Fantasy series (Origins, Chronicles, FF7, FF8, FF11), and Metal Gear Solid 3.

To check if a game you own will have compatibility issues, simply visit the site below and type in the name of the title in question.

The good news is, while not all games work on the PS3 as of launch, Sony can potentially fix this problem through new firmware patches to the system.

This was the problem that they had in Japan when the system was first released over there. Sony had advertised in Japan that the PS3 would be backwards compatible with the PS2 games; however, when it was released in Japan, that was found out not to be true. The production in the US was delayed so they could supposedly fix that problem. I do not think that they did. You might want to talk with someone that owns a PS3 and PS2 to see if the games work.

Yes, all of the PS2 games, at most (about 80%) of PS1 games will work fine. The PS3 is backward compatibl, meaning that it can play older games for older PS systems as well as games designed specifically for it.

Did I mention it had a Blu Ray player? Cause it does. And the cool thing is that you would pay upwards of $1000 for one elswhere, and you got one and a whole lot more for a little over 6. How sweet is that?

My son has a new PS3. Most of his old PS2 games do work on the new PS3. I know he has at least one game (Sorry I don't know the title) that does not work on the PS3. He asked Sony and they said their would be an update/patch after the first of the year that should fix most of the issues.

While some games (including, unfortunately, some very popular ones) have issues, the overwhelming majority of PS2 and PS1 games are backwards-compatible (that is, they will work on the PS3).

Most PS2 games will work on PS3. There have been reports of a couple older games not working properly with the new processor.
