I don't want to get her something that is gawdy or cheap looking. What can I get her that says I love her without looking cheap about it?

Get out your camera or borrow one and take some pictures of you, your husband and/or your kids if you have any.

Put the pictures in a beautiful frame and give it to her.

Or, ask her for photos of her son when he was little and take the same sort of photo today and give her those too. Like him at 7 in a snow suit and him today outside in the snow.

Mother's NEVER have enough pictures of their kids, even when their kids are adults.

This time of year, there are great picture frames on sale at Michael's, Joann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, Kohl's, Target and every other store around. If you don't like the frames, try getting a smooth one and cover the frame with fabric or paint it so it's something you created.

You obviously have access to a computer, do a search of poems or sayings about mom's and print one out and put it in another frame to give to her.

Or how about writing her aletter about what you love about her son. All the good things he is are a direct result of the thousands of hours she spent wiping his nose, washing his laundry, reading him stories and driving him all over the place. Maybe she should hear that!

Ahh, the age old question... what to get the mother-in-law for Christmas. I face it every year. This year I'm making a Christmas morning basket for her. I'm filling it with a fuzzy pair of slippers, small packs of gourmet coffee, biscotti, pancake mix, muffin mixes, some herbal teas, a couple of ornaments, and some candy, along with a note for her to be opened on Christmas morning that says how much we wish we could be with her, and we hope she enjoys her breakfast, and so on. I usually do some kind of basket for her, and she always comments about how thoughtful it was.

Good luck with the gift, and happy holidays!
