I think when baby Jesus was born and the three wisemen came bearing gifts.

The Roman Catholics started the holiday in the 15 or 16th century.... And actually the Bible doesn't state Jesus was born on Christmas day and it doesn't say there was three wise men just three gifts... one could have brought two....
