If your body isn't ready, a technique probably won't work. There are some that have no side effects that are usually safe to try. Often they're called "old wives tales" to get labor going. There are plenty of old wives tales that help with inducing labor. You've probably already heard them all! And some of them do help with inducing labor naturally, but it doesn't always work ;)

* Walk, walk, and walk some more: Don't exhaust yourself, but a good walk every day helps your body get ready for labor even if it doesn't put you into labor.

* Climb stairs: There are variations to this: climb stairs, go two at a time, etc. Along with walking, it's good exercise, and the movement may help get your baby lower in your pelvis.

* Activity: It's fitting to say that along with climbing or walking, any kind of activity may kick start labor. Scrubbing the floor has long been a cited method of going into labor. There are stories of an afternoon spent gardening leading to a joyous birth. You can try cleaning, gardening, dancing, yoga – anything. Just don't wear yourself out. Make it part of your daily routine in late pregnancy.

* Squatting: One of the reasons scrubbing floors and gardening may be infamous for inducing labor is because they require squatting or being on all fours – positions that help open the pelvis and encourage baby to engage. Squatting throughout pregnancy is a great idea anyways, because it helps your baby to move into the right position.

* Nipple Stimulation: This method of inducing labor involves constant stimulation of the nipples and requires time to work – but if your body is ready, studies show it does work. It can also be used to get a sluggish labor going a bit more strongly.

* Driving on bumpy roads: Some grandmas swear by it. I recall a family member fondly telling me stories of taking a "dune buggy" out to get a labor going! If your baby is in a good position, the jostling of the car may help bring on labor.

* Eating spicy foods. A favorite natural way of inducing labor! Hey, it could work, and it's worth a shot if you like spicy foods. Just don't go overboard, as indigestion is no fun.

* Visualization and Relaxation: Taking the time to simply relax and visualize yourself opening up for your baby may trigger labor. You may want to listen to a guided relaxation or simply your favorite soothing music. Talk to your baby and tell him or her that you are ready to meet him or her!

* Aromatherapy: Sit back and relax with soothing scents like lavender and peppermint. You can inhale them or you can add them to a warm bath. Or have your partner prepare some warm compresses for you as you do your daily relaxation. Use the time to visualize labor starting.

* Enema: This may not be the most pleasant option, but it has worked for some mothers. Other mothers find they don't like it at all. You can try it if you feel comfortable with it.

there are only three things actually shown to work. sex is out. however, you can still masturbate. actually, studies have shown that the contractions caused by orgasms are actually stronger when a woman masturbates versus when she has sex with another person. second, stimulate your nipples, when you stimulate your nipples, it causes oxytocin to be released, as you probably know, oxytocin causes contractions. thats why they say you should breast feed your baby immediately after birth, because it helps expell the placenta faster, and make the uterus shrink quickly. and third, and this i did along with the above two, drink razberry LEAF tea. not razberry tea. the leaf. this has been shown to do two things, it strengthens and tones the uterus, and can help induce labor in the end of pregnancy. my doctor said it was perfectly safe, and worth a try. i drank two cups a day for a few days, and sure enough, out she came.

Walk Walk and do more walking.... as much as possible. Sit on a birthing ball as much as possible. I've also read that certain pressure points on the foot trigger contractions as well as nipple stimulation. Eat lots of Salad and other fiber rich food....it will move your bowels which will cause your uterus to contract.

Actually for my first child, my doctor had to go out of town right around my due date. She wanted to stall my labor so she said "no salads, and no walking" so I say to do just the opposite! Hope it helps.

lots and lots of walking, if you have stairs walk up and down them a couple times. i have heard that a bumpy care ride could make you go into labor if you know any bumpy roads you could try that. umm, other wise i dont know i know you need to do a lot of walking though. good luck.
