when a man you don't know calls you those. (Personally, I like it)

It depends on who it is and the situation. If they are flirting with me, then no. If they are just use to using the word and are being innocent, then it doesn't bother me to much.

I have a bad habbit of using such words because my family is from the south and it's just in our vocabulary. I don't like creepy people using them and trying to hit on me though!

Normally I don't like that at all. I find it demeaning and it IS disrespectful. Both men AND women do that though. I've had women call me "sweetie & hon" just like men. It's never appropriate in a business situation either at work or when somebody is waiting on you in a store or restaurant. I suppose it can be overlooked in some casual situations where somebody is just not cultured enough to know better...but in a business (large or small) you are taught not to use those terms to your customers right out of the gate - so if you use them anyway...it's just disrespect.

I generally don't use such terms with those I don't know. Seems overly familiar.
However, in my home town of Baltimore, particularly in certain parts of town, there is a persistent old tradition by which it is perfectly acceptable (and still fairly common) for perfect strangers to call each other "Hon."
Not "Honey," not any other word, just "Hon."
Just a bit of local color.

No I don't do that. A kid on the bus was doing it the other day trying to pick up this girl and it was really annoying. I'm not really comfortable with women (like at work) doing that to me either, unless it's a relative like my Mom or my aunt or someone that I'm really close to.

It's a tad creepy to me especially when it's a phone call and the guys is like "hey sweetie" and I have no idea who it is. I hate that. Don't sweetie or baby me man, you don't know me!

Yes, I call women I don't know "sweetheart" sometimes..sometime I'm bad with names and do it as well. Though I have had to stop due to sexual harassment policies in most places, which leads to calling someone "Miss" or "ma'am" both of these always sound so cold.

When a man says those things to me I don't mind as much as I do when a woman says those things to me! Especially when it is a woman who is the same age as me. Oh that is annoying lol. I am not your sweety your dumb B***h.
