Alcohol and drugs could do a lot of damage to a child's IQ. Brie cheese can cause miscarriage but I don't know if it can affect IQ or not. Chances are if it can cause miscarriage, I guess it could cause brain damage if the child survived.

Despite what people think, IQ does not necessarily have a direct correlation with how people do in school, in life, on tests, or just about anything else. However, yes, what you eat while pregnant ABSOLUTELY affects the way in which your baby's brain develops. People recommend plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids (these can be found in fish, flaxseed oil, and many other kinds of meat) and lots of anti-oxidants----berries are GREAT for this, as are most kinds of fruit and vegetables. Protein is also important, but the meat and fish would probably take care of that----just watch the amounts, because you don't want to give your baby a brickload of stress hormones. You might try to eat an organic diet, if you can, and substitute fish for other meats whenever possible.
Simplified completely,
"Eat what is healthy stuff, and try to stay away from pesticides, stress hormones, large amounts of sugar, or (this goes without saying) any kinds of illegal drugs." Ideally, you should not be drinking caffeine or alcohol. A coffee here and there won't kill you; but despite what some people have said about it possibly being okay to have a drink every week or few weeks, the better policy is still not to chance it.
Congratulations, and good luck!
Edit: But 34 weeks...? You're due very soon! You should still try to eat healthfully, but it'll have more minimal impact than if you had started earlier... if you're going to breast-feed, though, watching your diet is STILL extremely important....even though it is also important to help keep you healthy and functioning so that it will help you be the best Mommy that you can be.

I had an Omega 6 fatty acid tablet each day while pregnant. I SWEAR it made a huge difference in my son's IQ!! He is now 18 months old, and I am 42. He is far more advanced than children his age, and was extremely alert from the time he was born. Even at my older age to give birth for the first time, he was born extremely healthy and is happy and strong as can be.
I also ate lots of fruits and vegetables, minimal red meat as I got protein from other sources. I also got plenty of sleep and exercised to the day he was born (and after).
Anyway, check out the Omega 6 tablets! They work!

Yes,.. of course it can. Just like some times people consume or breath something and get brain damage or end up in the hospital,... or die.
