63 mph = 1.05 mpM
3 h = 180 M
180M+40M = 220M
220M/60M = 220/60 or 11/3 h
11/3 h * 63mph = 231mph

Or you can do it the easy way

63MPH * 3H = 189 MPH
63MPH * 40/60H = 42 MPH

189+42 = 231 Miles

Let

63 = the rate of the car

3 Hours and 40 minutes = the time travled

40 minutes = 40/60 of an hour or 2/3

2/3 = 0.666666667 of an hour

the time becomes

3.666666667 Hours

Formula for distance

d = rt

Multiply the rate of the car by 3.666666667

63 x 3.666666667 = 231 Miles

The answer is: the car has traveled 231 miles in 3hours and 40 Minutes.

well, 63 miles an hour times 3 hours is 189 miles.

if the car travels 63 miles in one hour, but only travels 40 minutes, then that is 40/60, which can be reduces to 2/3. so, multiple 63 miles per hour times 2/3 an hour, that is 126/3, or 42.

Add the two distances, 189 and 42, and you will have 231.

And for 230 miles, small children in the back were yelling, "Are we there yet?"

Your first step is converting 40 minutes into hours. This works out to 40/60 of an hour, or 2/3.

Therefore, since the time is equal to 3 2/3, convert that into an improper fraction, to get 11/3.

Since the car is travelling 63 miles / hour, multiply by hours to get miles.

63 (mile/hour) * 11/3 (hours) = 63*(11/3) miles
= 143 miles

I am a good math student, A+ in math. And to find distance you'd use the formula d=rt (distance= rate x time). So youd say d= 63 x 3 2/3, then the next line wud be d= 231... so it'd be 231 miles. And I checked it w/ a calculator. We just studied this so I'm 99.9% sure I'm rite.

UW and Puggy have it right except that Puggy inexplicably comes up with 63 * 11/3 = 143. This is of course equal to 231.

40 mins = 2/3 hr

So time taken = 3+2/3h

Distance = time x speed = (3+2/3)x63=231 miles

well, 3h * 63 mph + (40min/60min) * 63 mph = . . . . you figure this part out.
