No one has told them that it's not a good thing to do. Celebrities do it, their parents do it. Family members do it. It's called being "judgmental" if you speak out against it LOL

I'd like the answer to this one too.
My "boyfriend" and I have lived together 5 years - I want to marry - he does not. I hate the term "boyfriend". After 5 years - you would think there has to be be a better term.
We are both divorced, and have 2 children (teens) each. So I think that has some part in it. Wanting to wait until the kids are grown so we don't have to choose between each other and the kids, should something happen regarding the kids.
I was ready to get married after two years of dating.
I wonder are we find more men or women that are struggling with this? And are they single, or divorced?

Many people are not comfortable with the fact that there are no guarantees in anything... So they would rather not take action at all than take action and fail. When you're in a relationship, you really open yourself up for failure, hurt, disappointment. I think, people who ARE afraid to commit are looking for guarantees that simply cannot be given.
That said, there are plenty of couples who choose not to marry, but who are committed to their relationship. In and of itself, legal marriage is not necessarily an indication of "committment".

I truly believe that most people do not want to marry because of the fear they will be left. Most people don't believe in forever, I guess they don't think it exists. There is so much heartache in marriages these days I think most would rather avoid this, also if the relationship starts going south, they can depart without the agrevation of finances and lawyers.

I live together with my fiance because we are saving for a wedding. Weddings are expensive and both of our families are poor.
Perhaps the rising number of people like me who are living together and not married is because there is a growing gap in the rich and the poor.
Hahah there are too many of these old bags with millions in bank accounts and they waste it on $400 pairs of shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they're afraid they will commit to the wrong person, or if they commit, something better will come along. People shack up because they are not sure the person they are with is the one, so the want to play house to try it out

I ask that myself everyday, i wonder that about my bf. He's soooo afraid of marriage because his friends got divorced. He's never been married and we have together 5 years.

Sounds like you just answered your own question. I think people live together to "test the waters" or fear of being alone.
