I don't necessarily know if they are closet homosexuals, but many rappers are Black. In the Black community, especially among males, homophobia is a huge issue. These rappers carry these ideals with them into adulthood. Rap and hip hop are extremely hyper masculine art forms, as noticed by the often mind numbing array and number of scantily clad women in the videos, rubbing and dancing on the men in the videos. It is a man's fantasy coming out through his song lyrics. With the sexual lyrics and the masculine image being presented, the idea of homosexuality is in total disagreement. Therefore, when homosexuality is addressed, it is addressed in the negative.
Certainly, there are gay rappers...it is a huge industry, and it would be statistically impossible that a few, if not more, of those men are gay. However, you will be hard pressed to hear that in their songs. The masses don't want to hear that...that is not what they seek when the seek out rap and hip hop music.

Because I guess being "gay" is the opposite of being a tough rapper. But there are always exceptions, Kanye West spoke out against homophobic lyrics in rap music.

The street life is not very Gay friendly. So most of these rappers, (although a majority of them arent really from the streets themselves, only posing as such) most of them are scared of the repercussions they would get if they were open to homosexuality.

Because rapping is seen as hyper-masculine, and being homophobic just fits in to that profile.

Doubtful. I think that they probably do not represent an inordinate sampling, but rather they have the means to communicate their opinions moreso than the average homophobe.

Why are people so homophobic?
Are they afraid of themselves?
Are they afriad of change?
Are they afraid of something that challenges thier beliefs?
Or is the rectum simply an exit, not an entrance?

There seems to be a stronger anti-gay feeling in the black communities then in others. Most rappers are black so this may reflect that feeling.
