Channel 4 is going to give a speech on christams day. It will be delivered by a muslim woman wearing a veil. The topic will be about muslim people's rights to wear veils. What do people think of this?

I meant what do people think about channel 4 trying to be shocking and show an alternate message which has nothing to do with Christmas.

I like the idea of an alternative Xmas message and Channel 4 is always controversial. however, I am surprised that Muslims just don't understand why we find the veil disturbing - it's a case of us being on view and Muslims in hiding. Also, as a woman, I really find the idea of 'hiding' from male view quite offensive even if it is the woman's own choice. In this country it is less than 100 years since women got the vote and I think if we had an extremist Muslim or Taliban government then we women would have no rights.
Also, don't forget - this is a Christian country. Would Afghanistan, for example, allow a Christian broadcast on their holy day?

What do I think of it? Well it's typical Channel 4 trying to shock people but don't they realise most people Yawn when they see things like this?
If the Muslim lady wants to do the message fine - I never listen to the Queen's message and I won't be listening to this one (probably because I don't have a TV!)!

Well, it seems to fit the ideas of Peace on Earth, Good Will to All Humans. A plea for more tollerance of those of different faiths and practices doesn't seem out of line.
I gather this question is a UK thing, as you all seem to know what "Channel 4" means (in the US, each area has its own set of numbers for which channel is what network).
Judging from a lot of the negative responses to this question regarding veils, it sounds like a worthwhile message -- though few, apparently, will hear it.

I feel it is deeply insulting, when in Rome and all that, except sadly this formerly strong and proud nation has turned into a nation which protects immigrants and not the white, christian, hard working folk who created 'Great' Britains Powerful empire.
If people come to Britain they should abide by Britains culture and rules.
The nation has become a laughing stock consisting of big talking, politically correct, woosies who are happier to mock the true patriot.
But who will be the laughing stock when all turns nasty? you've got it, the jumped up, over oppionated, pc, **** on question time begging for help.
Get firm on people who wont adapt to our culture or get the barstards out!!!! Enough front room oppinions be proud of your nation!!

I think it's total crap. They always had a celebrity doing it before but now we have to show that we are all non racist people, it's rubbish, if it is true that only 6% of british people are from an ethnic minority (it's what the home ofice said, can't be true) then w shouldn't have to put up with all this PCing.

whats wrong with that, we have to put up with right wing religious lunatics forcing lies about a non existant god, jesus etc every christmas which has nothing to do with these non existant entities and also we have to listen to a German parasite spouting trash written for her by Tony Blair

It is part of her will, if she likes to wear the veil, nobody can condemn her for that.
