Ashamed and afraid!

2006-12-07 05:18:35 · answer #1 · answered by me 6 · 3 5

I think that afraid would be the best answer. After more than two centuries, the Presidency has acquired enormous power, much of it illegal, but very real nevertheless. A corrupt or incompetent President will use this power to do great harm to our country and the world. This is what has happened!.

I don't think that being either proud or ashamed is appropriate for American subjects at this point. We Americans have no actual say in the nomination of the President, we have no actual input into the any of the (behind the scenes) selection processes, and certainly no veto power over the "choices" handed to us on election day, still less about what the politician will do after he is elected. The people who actually decide are the immensely wealthy and influential insiders who raise and manage the billion or so dollars that go into funding the election charade; the senior media, diplomatic and academic figures who decide which issues are to emphasised by either tweedledumb and tweedledumber during their campaigns, whether a scandal is to be publicised, and attacking which candidate, and finally, whose votes are to be counted, and whose are to be ignored. The existence of the electoral college assures us that we voters are ignored not only as individuals but, for the most part, even as STATES, unless you have the good fortune(?) to live in a state where the outcome is "contested". a so-called "battleground state". Even then, the election goes on, a new President is inaugurated, and the mess continues...

Even if your vote counts (and you also believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and Social Security solvency) and you vote for the winner, you (as a voter) have absolutely no way of enforcing the candidate's promises once he IS elected. You may vote for him for one reason and then find that he behaves entirely differently once enthroned in office. Look at how President Bush called for a "more humble" foreign policy for America in 2000 and what has happened since!

Irresponsible, uncontrolled, and despotic power that can neither be governed nor repealed. Sounds frightening to me!!

Well, you know, I'm not an American but i really think that you guys should feel at least ashamed of him! I would feel the same way if I had a president who (im sorry to say that) is considered a murderer and a criminal! Well, actually I AM ashamed of my president!!!! Never thought of that before!!!

Whether you like W or not, you should be proud of him. He embodies the ideals that our country was founded upon - stick to what you believe in. What if Columbus hadn't stuck to his beliefs? What if the signers of the Declaration had said, "Well crap, why don't we just suck up to the Queen?" Like it or not, Bush has done just as those people did. You have to give him credit for that.
I'm onlny ashamed of most of you. You who think you know how it should have been done. Maybe you'd have Congress do their work on Y!A. So many apparently have forgotten how high his approval ratings went up right after 9/11. Most of you people are like the buffoon who makes a lot of big noise and then turns tail and runs when you discover you might have to make a sacrifice. You're beyond pathetic, you're too low for words.

Americans should be both afraid and ashamed....Bush has managed to destroy what the founding father's and our men and woman of the military have fought so hard for...Under Bush we no longer freedom of speech, and the freedom of press has been severely undermined under his dictatorship...I proudly support our troops and I love my husband a ssgt, but I do not support our president...

Ashamed, embarrassed, disgusted, what else can I say about our so called "President"? He has gone to war which has been unsuccessful. His only saving grace was that Sadam Hussein was caught. By far, one of the worst presidents in American History!!!!!

I am proud to be American, but if I were in another country I would not brag about it!

Ashamed.

Those of you who only say that we should be proud of him because he has our interest at heart.... well it's not the thought that counts here. HIS ACTIONS speak louder now. If you really thought that it was only his thoughts that mattered or that he had America's best interest at heart then you'd have supported every single president no matter what party EVER. They all want America to succeed just in different ways.

Ashamed, because he is a lying dolt that has embarassed our country and made us international pariah. Afraid, because this babbling idiot might still attack Iran and really get us into a situatuion we can't win, also gettting needlessly thousands more killed.
