It is a natural variation of the human sexual response.

Most people are straight, some are not. Most people are right-handed, some are not. Most people have the speech center in the left hemisphere of the brain, but some have it on the right side. Nature, in her wisdom, loves variety! "Different" does not automatically mean "bad" or "wrong," but some people have trouble with this concept.

More and more research is finding more and more evidence that biological factors (e.g., genes, hormones, neuroanatomy) have a strong influence over sexual orientation. But there may be environmental influences at work as well.

I recently read somewhere that concordance rates for homosexuality among identical twins are around 66%. Typically, anoything over a 60% concordance rate suggests a strong biological basis. But people who favor environmental or social influences to explain differences in sexual orientation are quick to argue that homosexuality must therefore not be entirely genetic, as these twins share 100% of their genes but do not demonstrate a 100% overlap in their sexual orientation.

However, concordance rates for complex behaviors (and, truly, what is more complicated than human sexuality?) are rarely ever 100%. As we've learned more about genetics, we've discovered that even people who have identical genes can have differences in gene activation. So, in the gay identical twin, the "gay genes" could be activated, whereas the straight identical twin would have the same "gay genes" only they are not activated.

Of course, I'm grossly oversimplifying a very complex idea, and I hope you don't experience this as condescending.

Another hypothesis, suggested by the finding that gay men tend to have several older brothers, is that as women have more sons, their immune systems recognize successive male fetuses as foreign, and mount an immune response that has the effect of somehow "feminizing" the brain of the fetus.

It may be of note that gay men tend to excel at verbal tasks over visuospatial ones (which is more characteristic of females than males), and their brains share other structural distinctions not typical of straight brains. They also tend to respond to male pheromones the same way a female's brain does.

Whatever the causes of homosexuality, all major mental and medical health organizations (e.g., the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, etc.) have affirmed that it is not a disease and therefore cannot be "cured."

Also, I would hate to think that, as genetic science advances, would-be parents might use the technology to "screen out" potentially gay offspring. What a boring world it would be if everyone were the same!

Well - let me speak from my own life - the truth - My dad never took me fishing or did anything with me together as FATHER & SON activities. he never played ball with me or did anything manly with me. He ignored me as his son and never gave me love or affection or showed any interest in my development. he came home, drank booze, climbed into bed and then farted till he fell asleep. So I had no male role model and no Father to bond with and be emotionally close to.

My Mom was a loudmouth, bossy, domineering, demanding, castrating, controlling woman just like an army drill sergeant, not too sweet or feminine like a MOM usually is. And so she turned me off to all women.

My parents hated each other and never had any sex together. And my dad was a tired old geezer, he had me at 45 yrs. he was already impotent. Dad was a prissy wuss - too.

If God had given me a normal American father who was young, healthy ,athletic and masculine - and a normal mother who acted like a mother should. Then this would not have happened. All my life I feel the need , the pain inside me to have ATTENTION & FRIENDSHIP FROM GUYS. I need a man's approval and affection.

this is the true reason I am what I am. It's not in the genes, It's not a choice, It's the PARENTS, THE PARENTS, THE PARENTS, THE PARENTS, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's cause my dad never took me fishing !!!!!!
