i am a science post grad and playing guitar is my hobby. i try to be in contact with people who are in performing music on stage. recently a local part time band contacted me to be their substitute bass guitar player as theirs had not come. They are only playing at a local club. Although i am interested in getting an exposure like that but my father says doing that kind of things will take me away from studies and will totally loose my track into this kind of music(rock music which he considers trash). My father has not stopped me but has put this fear in me that i would indeed loose my way and suffer the consequences. Am i doing the right thing???

As long as you are clever with your time and prioritise with your studies it should be fine. What if you turned it down not knowing that your future wife will be at that club and you'll meet blah blah blah. You get the point. I say go for it, can always jack it in if not working.

science and rock go together i think brian may has a doctorate in astronomy. but keep up with the studies, you wouldnt want to be a labourer playing part time in a rock band in bars.theres always rockbands, you only have one shot at university.

Its a compromise of studies and pleasure you have to make. You can do both as long as the studies come first. You still need a social life, it makes you who you are as much as any academic qualifications will. So give it a go, you will be able to gauge you commitment as you go along...and enjoy yourself while your at it

If u don't take chances then life becomes full of regrets.
Alot of people don't go to uni till much later in life, it's not disapear.
I love singing and dancing and if someone offered me the chance to do it for money I would drop everthing

you're only young once...there are plenty of us who regret our missed opportunities
respect your father's fears & keep up your studies tho' as most musicians need qualifications or a career aswell.
Good luck to you! Enjoy!
(just my opinion as a parent)
