A friend of mine had been having problems with her hand. she couldn't hold things anymore and it was feeling numb all the time. She went to her doctor and they tested her for carpal tunnel and it was positive. She has a physical job, so the doctor told her to go through her jobs insurance so she could get workmans comp because she may need surgury and so on. When she went to the doctor for the insurance company, they tested her hand for CP and it was positive. The doctor said that cant be right and wanted to test her again. He had her hold her hand under hot water for several minutes, I believe 2 or 3, and then tested her again, this time showing no carpal tunnel. What happened there? Is that a trick so the insurance companies dont have to pay for work comp and so on? And how does she go about making a complaint about this and getting re-tested or filing a new claim cuz the womans' hand is pretty bad and I don't want to see her cheated and forced to work like this. Please, I need help.

I'm sorry but what kind of test? under the water? she should go back and tell them, theres other ways of testing for carpal tunnel one of them is called Tinels Test...which consist of taping @ the wrist...is one of the test that we use at physical therapy or massage therapy.
Tell your friend to fight for whats right. And to NOT let WC throw away the case. A lot of times WC dont want to pay and find ways to get out of it. If she needs to her to get a workers comp.lawyer they can fight for her rights.
Good luck ^i^

Perhaps if she has tendonitis, quite different from carpal tunnel hot water will relax the muscles and tendons and allow more freedom of movement. I am pretty sure heat really won't help the symptoms of carpal.

She needs to go to her family doctor and tell him the results and ask his oppinioin. Flip side is the Doc saying she has carpal might be trying to make a few bucks.

And get a third oppinion.

I would have your friend, even if at her own expence, have an E.M.G. done. That will prove her carpal tunnel case. I myself went through the same situation and had surgery done on both hands for bi-lateral carpal tunnel. The E.M.G. cannot be faultered! Good Luck! And do tell your friend to get an attorney fast. W/C will try to screw her on the monies.

First time for me to hear of CTS test done underwater. Ask your friend to look up Tinel's sign and the drop-wrist test in the net. These are the two physical signs to look for in CTS. EMGs are confirmatory tests.

Why don't you take her to see a doctor of Chiropractic and have the carpal bone replaced to its proper position.. will alleviate the symptoms.
