Looking away from something will not help you focus in the short term, but it may help you rest your concentration for a short period of time while your mind prepares itself for a better term of concentration in the long term. A good example would be " taking a test". Sometimes if your having a diffcult time with a particular question, you are betting off going to the next question and then returning to the question with a nw mental perspective.

Staring directly at something will cause the rest of the picture to go blurry. (I was JUST thinking about this). So yes, looking away can help regain your focus.

Yes, it does - it helps everyone when they work on things that require/engage both the left and right sides of the brain. The most prominent examples are memory and creativity; and memory and analysis.

FYI: because of the shape of the receptors in the human eye, when it is dark, and you look directly at something, you cannot see it nearly as well as if you look at it very slightly off center: Look at the 2 o'clock position just very slightly off the target, and it will appear slightly brighter.

These days yes. I can't look at my sweetie's pictures since he passed. If I do, I sit there and stare at them until I start to cry so I just keep my eyes averted so that I'm not looking directly at him. I would put them away but I just can't stand putting his photos in a closet or in a drawer, I feel like the gesture itself would hurt his feelings or something.

Yes. When I'm trying to figure out the problem, I tend to look straight up at the ceiling so I can figure it out in my head.
