The way of life in American Society is great. That's really something that cannot be challenged. I've lived in a few other places - and i'm not in the US now, but the style of living in the US is very care-free and relatively safe in comparison. I plan to go back to the NYC area.
Also, the huge amount of cultural influences you can see in a major city in the US is so beneficial to a person as an individual. I loved living near NYC and moving through all of the different neighborhoods and living styles. Despite the racism stigma that the states has, there is quite a bit of unity and respect in more enlightened areas - just like the rest of the world. (The stigma affected me so badly that i thought US was the only place that racism was a serious problem - after having lived in a few others, i find out it's one of the most tolerant countries)
Another really great aspect of US life is the amount of artistic talent around. There truly are some amazing and accessible outlets of talent in the US - much like Paris and London. (One's not better than the other, though idiots from all three will argue with each other until they're blue in the face....usually, unsuccessful artist idiots! lol)
One thing, though, is that it's by far the most observed culture in the world, so there is a strong draw of artists and creative types to places like NYC, SF, LA, and others from all over the globe...NYC especially.
With all that attention, there's also a strong amount of criticism from other places. Blue blood americans would call it jealousy, and i'm partially in agreement with that, but there's so much more to it. What a lot of people from around the world tend to do is judge the US by what they see from afar, rather than actually going and experiencing. And what others will do is go and experience, but focus on the aspect that they already decided was shallow and inferior to their culturally-fueled sense of identity. That shallow, stupid american cliche is really a ridiculous concept; i've met shallow, stupid people from all parts of the world; the American is just a happier version of shallow and stupid. Also, there's a tendency to take the actions of the US government in international situations (such as this truly unfortunate war) and pin it on the American people - which is ridiculous. okay...i'm finished
the point: the US is really a wonderful place to live - among others. The culture is rich, depending on where you go to visit. and despite the stereotype that i see europeans harboring here often, the intellectual community is huge and enriched

I would have to say it like this;
1) The ability to do almost anything. Yeah, we can be completely idiotic and end up on Jerry Springer, or we can start our life in utter poverty in a shed in Louisiana and end up as the Surgeon General. We can curse out the president on the street, and still back our troops like no other. I was in Desert Storm and saw the piles of gifts. A mile long line of gifts mailed to "Any Soldier". I saw Nikon cameras, Nintendo systems, Televisions, you name it. From kind people who love us just because we are Americans.
2)No matter how old we get, we'll never be the age old Europe (which is beautiful by the way) or the tradition bound China (which is again, BEAUTIFUL), but we are the scrappy kids of the world. We're the let-it-rock-out-with-our-c**k-out people! You can kick us when we're down, because we know we'll be standing strong in no time. The American spirit is unwavering and unstoppable. Sometimes we bleed, but if it bleeds, doesn't mean it can be killed.

come on now, 3 was hard enough, 2, Impossible.!!!!, if you ask for United State society, I will try, but In the American continent, there are more than few Countries, and few of then have what they consider their own Society., Now my self I don't believed in any one Society, because since the Greek Society was false, and then few more, I don't believed we have enough time as Humans to create the perfect society, less any one, with any one QUALITY!!!!!!. If you don't which to call Materialism a quality..., Sorry.
