Seriously, how would you NOT realize you just poored liquer into a bottle? My guess is the Mom thought that it would quiet the baby down to give it a bottle full of booze so she tried it and someone else told her, thats a bad idea so she took baby to ER.
But either way, whether she actually did do it on accident, or if she did on purpose.....she shouldn't be allowed to get her baby back. Coz she's either A, a horrible mean mother or B, too stupid.
I've done things on accident myself in preparing a baby bottle. One time I poured the water for the bottle and then I dumped a scoop of formula into the jug of water instead of the baby bottle. But yeah, I'd think I'd notice the boozy smell coming out of the clear glass bottle as I was pouring it into my infants bottle???

Before responding to this question please do a little research. There are several other services reporting this story that give greater detail.
Vodka is a clear, odorless liquid. It is sometimes drunk by individuals wishing to hide their drinking problem from others. It is detectable by taste, breathalyzer, or blood-alcohol test.
If the husband had Vodka in a water bottle he was probably trying to hide it from authorities and possibly his wife. No one can be for sure whether the wife knew or not. Maybe she should have taken a drink out of the husbands water bottle before using it to make the formula, but considering the fact it was in a water bottle it is very possible that she thought is was indeed water. Remember, once again, vodka is odorless. One thing we can hope is that the father was at the very least the passenger. I have seen no reports saying he was driving the car.
To the person who responded a baby shouldn't be drinking water at that age, only breast milk or formula, formula generally comes in a powdered form that has to be mixed with, you guessed it, water.
To the person who responded "wtf", please give a little more detail to your response. After all, your moniker has the word "Whiskey" in it.
No one has perfect grammar, but at least spell check your comment before posting. As I write this I see there is a spell checker to the upper right of the comment box.

What mother in her right mind would mistake water and Vodka? None I know! He** even I would be able to smell the stuff and my nose has been broken five times! This was NO accident it was purposely done, and it was probably some stupid person said it would make the baby sleep, or help with teething, or some other stupid reason. I would lock both of them up and find a responsible adult to care for the child. i mean seriously, how stupid can a person get?

Well, all I can say is THANK GOD SOMEONE HAD THE SENSE TO DROP THEM OFF AT THE HOSPITAL.
What about the boyfriend? Isn't he just as responsible if he was there??? Even though he did do the right thing.
This mother needs to be detoxed and counseled, don't you think? And here's another interesting question?? How could you NOT know what you are putting in your childs bottle for Gods sake??? That is total bull. She was definetely NOT SOBER when she was making the bottle, that's for sure. No mother who is of sound mind or sober does crap like that.

This happened very close to where I live.
According to the last news story I saw on it:
The boyfriend went inside motel office to get a room, mom and baby waited in car. The baby was fussy so mom made a bottle with what she thought was water from boyfriends water bottle. It turned out to be vodka. Baby was given approx 2 ounces of vodka.
This whole incident is sickening. Regardless of what the mother thought, what on earth was her boyfriend doing drinking straight vodka while driving aroung with an infant in the car!!!!!
The police are handling this as they should: CHILD ABUSE.

Either the mother claimed it was a mistake, or she really fed the baby with alcohol, it's just so sad. Someone could get uncareful with such a tender, sweet life. Perhaps she got impatient with the crying, this is my absolute guess. Ah, men's sinful nature. "Did not mean to" may mean she was sorry or said it was a mistake.
When I re-read the question, my question is: How would you claim it was a mistake when you "made" the bottle personally to feed your baby?

I think the baby should be taken away. i think the mom was drunk or high or something. Formula is made with water...who would use just some clear liquin in a bottle to make formula with instead of just using the tap water....sounds like the baby is safer away from the mom to me.

I think that even if the incedent was a mistake, it called for soem type of carelessness on the parents part and I think that the baby should be taken away from them, until the parents can get thier life straight, at least. I mean, com on the mother was only 19, she is young herself....she doesn't even have her life under control!

Take the baby away. An the aunt needs to stop making excuses for child abuse. The mother was trying to kill her baby. I cry for the child.

Well, the child should definitely be under someone else's care whether it's Child Services or another relative. Who puts alcohol in a baby bottle anyway?
