Commitment and Legal obligations. If he should decide to abandon the arrangement you could find yourself stuck w/lease and any bills incurred. Also, you will not be recognized as the spouse if an emergency occurs and if any medical decisions need to be made on his behalf. Only his immediate family can do that. You also may not be entitled to any benefits such as medical insurance or life insurance benefits. These can be easily opposed in court.

Living together is not a full commitment and is not recognizeable in a court of law unless you've been together for at least 7 years(in some states) which is called common-law husband/wife...
Getting married is legal and recognizeable in a court of law....
Also, if you're not married and you want that person to leave, you can call the po po (police) to get them out and you cannot get any money from him unless you have kids and put him on child support....
If you are married, you have to go thru the courts to have him evicted and get his a** for spousal support and child support...
Which do you think is the best?

Marriage has more serious consequences. If you're married and your husband takes money from you or hits you, nobody cares much. If you get divorced, you can lose some of your possessions. If you just live together, you can leave at any time without explanation.

When you move in with someone, it's seen as something temporary, to "test it out" and "see if it will work," etc. The idea is if you don't work as a couple, you'll just separate. When you get married, the idea is you're going to make it work, and if you don't work as a couple, you're going to try to make it work anyway.

Marriage is a commitment. If you just live together, one of you can legally leave with no repercussions. If you love each other, get married. Otherwise, you just have a roommate with benefits.

Marriage is a legally binding "contract". Moving in together is just...well... moving in together.
