you-ve got a very good point there, many people just celebrate Christmas for the presents and as an excuse to eat too much. Christmas is in order to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, not so that everyone can have some time off get drunk and spend too much.

I think that in our culture since we are free to worship and say most anything that when someone says Merry Christmas they are truly giving you a blessing that they mean. There are many other phrases to use such as Happy Holidays or such that can be said by people who do not celebrate Christmas, but still desire to say something nice to you.

Scrooge was fond of saying Bahh Humbug around the holidays.

Happy Christmas to you, too- but you're right, it seems sort of phony if you say it to just everyone. It's kind of like "Have a nice day." I can assure you, though, that I mean it every time I say it, and I sincerely hope you have the happpiest of Christmases, even if you are a little anti.

I'm Atheist but I do wish people would stop knocking Christmas!!
There are lots of people who regard it as a very special time and I think it is sincerely meant by those who say it!
If someone says it to me I say, "Thank you, I hope you have a Good Christmas!"
Manners cost nothing!!

First off, I dislike your avatar.

Christmas is not about "parroting" a phrase, it's about celebrating the fact that God gave us a part of him, to take on all of our wrongs, and to allow us to be welcomed into heaven after we die here on earth. So generally people who say "Happy Christmas" or "Merry Christmas" mean it.

Don't be so calloused about it. Accept their greetings. They are sharing their good feelings.
