Tis the season for sharing. So I thought, why not share some very useful hints?

I'll start. Mine is for those office parties. Often people will heat up apple cider in a coffee maker which is a no-no. It gives the cider a coffee taste. The best alternative would be a small crockpot and use a dipper.

I use a bottle opener, the kind with one pointed end like you used to open cans with before poptops. Put the point under the edge of a jar that has a stuck lid and apply a bit of pressure upward. If you do this at one or two places around the jar lid, generally you can break the vacuum seal and the lid will just unscrew. I also stick notes on mirrors and windows using a dab of toothpaste as "glue". Just a dab and a piece of paper sticks to the glass. Better than those post it notes if it's hot or damp. A message on the bathroom mirror is almost never missed! :-) Plus, it washes clean easily. Another tip: buy a plastic tub with a lid and put presents for family and friends (birthday, Christmas, Hannukah, whatever) in it and keep it in the back of your closet under blankets. That way you can buy what you want when you have the money and aren't rushed for time! Holidays and gift giving gets a lot easier. Come the time to give, just pull it out and wrap it up. When I find the perfect greeting card I buy it and put it in there, too. It's amazing what fantastic presents you can give if you shop all year for them in twenty minute segments!

In order to accomodate the new toys my kids will recieve and as a community service lesson for them, I have them donate old toys that are in good repare to Goodwill before Christmas.

If you do use a coffee pot, running a mixture of water and vinegar through the brew cycle should get the smell and taste out!

Before you put up your real Christmas tree, make sure to place a tree disposal bag (or even a large garbage bag) underneath the stand. Cover it with your tree skirt. This will make getting your tree out of the house so much less painless, not to mention messy!

I think the best way to celebrate holidays for me is to be with the people who I love. Also on holidays, if god has given you enough for everything then you should always give something to the ones that are less fortunate then us. Happy Holidays
