A year ago I would have said Matt Costa and ALO, but they have gotten a pretty decent, dedicated fan base. They may never be U2, but I think bands with that much fame and fortune are necessarily *over* rated, meaning people attach themselves to bands like that with only limited regard to the actual personal importance of the music. A sure-fire way to tell that a band is over rated is if the fans effect the music.
But today I would say an under rated performer is Dan Crary. Even in his own circles, a lot of people don't like him, although his music is incredibly important and influential to his style.

i really enjoy keane. also ray lamontaine (i can't remember how to spell his last name) but there are also tons of bands on myspace that are so very talented that never "make it" and that is sad. probably one of my favorite myspace bands is "jackson waters" they just got signed to a small label and i really hope they make it because they are super nice guys. also a band that was called stellamaris got signed but now has to change their name because there is another band in israel called that. check them out on myspace as well... i could go on and on. my husband is a musician and is constantly making me listen to new music. he's a total music addict.
