The only Ptolemy I know of was one of Alexander the Great's generals. After Alexander's death, Ptolemy received control of the lower part of the empire, which included Egypt. The last of the Ptolemaic rulers was Cleopatra VII, lover to both Caesar and Anthony.

A LOT of people have heard of Ptolemy. Pretty interesting dude--started the Library at Alexandrea (and this Ptolemy was Alexander the Great's friend and a general in his army). You should have started your report sooner. It's a LOT easier that way. Google him and let your mouse do the clicking and eyes do the reading.

Which Ptolemy? If you mean the rulers of Egypt, they all had brothers and fathers called Ptolemy and sisters and mothers called Cleopatra.

If you mean the astronomer, check out the links below. His family and background are not known.

And all of them are too early and the wrong country for that school system. In general, they only had private tutors at that time, no established schools.
