Mercury is closest. The order is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and... oh wait... never mind. I was taught the mnemonic sentence "My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas." Each first letter of every word of that sentence is also the first letter of each planet in order from the sun. But, of course, the pizza part is gone now... which leaves me wondering what mom's serving these days...

Mercury is closest physically, but word on the street is Jupiter and the Sun are pretty buddy-buddy and once had an intimate relationship where a baby was born out of wedlock (the baby became a comet).

Don't you know Earth is at the center of the universe? Since there is inhabitable planet or moon anywhere else, shouldn't we be the center?
