The terms negative and positive charges were coined by Ben Franklin. I have always remembered "P" is for both proton and positive. No charge, or neutral charge, is the "neu"tron. So, all that is left is the negative charge, which is what electrons have. Any atom will have a net zero electrical charge--meaning all protons equal all electrons. The electrons orbit the nucleus of the atom in the electron cloud in layers termed orbital shells. The flow of what are known as valance electrons is called electricity.
Electrons are made up of even smaller particles known as quarks. Certain quarks make up electrons, other types make up protons, and neutrons...even things like muons, gluons, etc, but that is getting into quantum mechanics and leaving chemistry, so I'll stop there.
