this is the slope / intercept form of and equation of a line.

m = the slope = y/x
b is the y intercept: the point where the line crosses the y (vertical) axis.

it is very easy to plot a line when it is in this form. first make a point on the y axis using the value of b. Next use the slope (m) to find the next point.

m is any number or fraction that is in front of the x. if for instance the number for m is 4/3 you would go 4 in the y direction (up or down, in this case up because it is positive) and 3 in the x direction (right or left, in this case right because it is positive) to find the next point.

once you have two points connect them with a line.

y = mx + b

This is the slope-intercept form of a linear equation, where the constant m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept (the value on the y-axix when x = 0)

A linear equation like

3y - 9x = 12

is stated in the slope-intercept form using algebraic manipulation as folows

3y - 9x = 12
3y = 9x + 12 {add 9x}
y = 3x + 4 {divide by 3}

That's the point-slope form of a linear equation, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

The slope of an equation is the change in y over the change in x, or the "rise over the run".

The y-intercept is the value of y where the function crosses the y-axis.

This is slope intercept form, m is your slope
you can find slope by subtracting one y value (y sub1) from another (y sub 2) this is known as change in y
then subtracting the one x value (x sub 1) from another (x sub 2) this is your change in x
then divide the change in y, by the change in x
and you have to keep the order you first do it in

for example, given two points lets say (-2,5) and (2,7)
you would do

(7-5)
-------
(2--2)
and thats your m
you b you find by putting your m in, then putting an order pair in
Ex
1/2 is your slope from before
so put in (-2,5)
5=(1/2) * (-2) +b
then
multiply you (1/2) by -2
you should get -1
so add 1 to both sides of your equation to get the b alone, to get
6=b
so your final answer to the question given these two points find an equation would be
y=(1/2)x+6

This is the slope-intercept equation for a line. m is the slope and b is the intercept. So if you're looking for either of these (slope or intercept) you can solve a linear equation for y and you'll have the slope and intercept in the result.

It is the slope-intercept form of a line.
m is the slope of the line
b is the point where the line crosses the y-axis (the intercept).

I'm pretty sure that is the slope of a line. y and x are the coordinates of the point on the line where b is the y intercept and m is the slope of the line
