Because the amount of time between the moment they were born and the present increases. Oh, did you mean why do people appear older as time passes? The simple reason is that all living things have a life cycle: birth, youth, maturity (I've purposely left out teenage-hood. It is really still youth), old age and death.

Because life is finite each day has meaning. Think of it this way. Suppose your teacher gave you a report assignment with no due date. When would you start on it?

Who is to judge whether one is old or not. Time is a man invented tool used to organize himself and others. Your only as old as you want to be. Its all subjective.
