I forgive! but we don't have the power in our minds to forget If we try to forget, the act of trying to forget will impress the facts even more firmly in our memories, but it doesn't mean we have a right to use it against the person we forgave.

Forgiveness is an act of the will in which a person relinquishes any "right" to get even with an offender. It does not necessarily have anything to do with "feeling" that the person has been forgiven. Again, it is an act of the will, relinquishing the "right" to "get even."

If another person asks to be forgiven, then, in saying, "Yes, I forgive you," all rights to "get even," or even to remind the offender of his previous offense, or to talk to others about it, are relinquished, unless talking about it is an act of love.*

Normally female are more easy to forgive but hard for them 2 forget and male are at the opposite side. For me if i really whole heartedly forgive someone, i will forget. It means that only if u r sincere 2 forgive then u can forget.

I never forget but being mad at someone is a waste of time and energy so i do forgive but won't hang out with you anymore lol For example my sister stole a very dear sentinmental claddah ring from me i went crazy for a yr or 2 trying to figure out what had happened to it I cried on the phone about it to her I trashed my whole apartment looking for it in every nook and cranny, I even blamed a close neighbor and always had suspicions he took it but couldn't prove it I just knew it was lost..... until my birthday 2yrs after i lost it my sister gives me a claddah ring for my birthday now this one was different but the same size it was different because in the middle of the heart was a ruby (my birthstone) I liked it, it was ok but then i really started to look at it and I figured out it was my original ring because the band was bent alittle in the same exact place where i had bent it when i was a kid on a mail box and never got it fixed her explanation of the bend was that she picked it up at a pawn shop so it was used. My sister is known for stealing other ppls things but i learned that day no1 is safe not even family so now i have my ring back ruined because she had a jewler put a hole in the middle of the heart and some tiny ruby put in the hole.I forgive my sister and we still talk I just won't forget it and the trust is gone and our relationship has changed because of it.So i think forgiving is easy you just move on but forgetting is the hard part. Hope this story helped. Good Luck :)

I agree with alot of others that it's hard to do either at times. That's why this is a special challenge for me. I have had to do both, and the truth is doing one without doing the other is like not doing either! The bible saids forgive and forget because that's what GOD does for us. He wipes the slate clean, he doesn't keep memoirs of our past offenses and in return for that you must do the same for your fellow man. Forgiving AND forgetting must go hand in hand in order to have complete peace with the offender, the situation, and most importantly......yourself.

I forgive, but not forget. It is easier to live with myself if I forgive other's mistakes, but I never forget them so that I can learn and remember not to make the same mistakes as others.
