the key impact would be our economy would be way worse, like the economy of France, where unemployment is over twice as bad as the US, very little growth and wealth creation and a huge deficit 10X that of the US (vs GDP), and a high suicide rate. As difficult as marriage is, it provides nurturing and training for kids. And it takes healthy kids to grow up to build a somwhat healthy economy like we have now. However, I believe the deficit and its massive increase in government with all its freebies and regulations is the result of Divorce. We did not have this destructive government 40 years ago. If you look at the chart for increase of Divorce and increase in government spending it is remarkable the correlation. Both shot up beginning in the 70's dramatically. I believe there is a strong correlation between messed up kids who were not protected by parents who divorced and them going on to run our self-indulgent, broken government which in time will destroy our society. and further support the break up of marriage. Because most people who marry divorce, the idea of just living together is appealing as why marry if you are likely going to divorce? But the key difficulty is apart from marriage children do not get to have the nurturing of the same Mom or Dad. And lets face it, people are driven to reproduce and kids are a magical joy for a family and for society; their contribution of Peace with a huge P is a treasure for us all, especially as society becomes progressively more uptight and unchildlike. Interesting, in the biography "Hard Drive" is was said again and again that Bill Gates was childlike as an adult and brought joy to lots of people and may be one of the greatest contributors to our society in terms of wealth creation and now charity to the needy. But I think he got this way due to the nurturing of great parents who stayed together for life--married. He gained enourmous Peace and an interest in serving others from his married parents. There are many other great people who came from parents married for life. So this outcome would suggest that man is biologically predisposed for permanent mating relationships. As kids from divorced homes seem to be damaging our society and I believe in time will convert America into a European style place where few marry, our incredible riches and interest in sharing with others will be largely gone.
