To answer your question. If your friend was only verbally advised of his infraction then there would be nothing more than a daily log entry at that particlur police dept. therfore he would have no record and it would not prevent him from entering the police dept. If he was in fact cited for the offense and he has not subsequently been in any other trouble he can hire an attourney and have this infraction expunged. Which would remove it from his record, and then again not preclude him from becoming a police officer. While in reality only those convicted of felonies are not able to become officers in practice each individual Dept. will put in its hiring criteria its own requirements. Meaning that most offenses even something like a D.U.I. means you will not qualify. But your friend should be ok. I would advise him to not conceal this though. On his application he ofcourse answers\ no to being convicted to a crime, but if it came up in the interview, which it most likely will, he should just tell the truth. It would not be held against him. (the old saying goes cops were not always cops) Hope this helps

If the caution is held on his record it may be a problem. He can obtain a copy of his Criminal Record from his local Constabulary Freedom Of Information or Data Protection Officer. There will be a fee of about £10.00. The phone number should be available from his local Police Office and he should be able to collect an application form from there.

If you don,t ask -- you don,t get ? -- I would think if he has not been in any form of trouble since the verbal caution He would stand every Chance -- Good Luck to your "Friend"
