which will mean that they are less likely to break apart the fabricated self that we all construct, and out of whose eyes we think we are looking out of at the world..... and so are less likely to produce spiritual philosophers of the highest calibre....or does being more emotional make the self image less concrete to start with?

i could have phrased it:
does a preocupation with self image impede self realization....and because of their greater preocupation with beauty and self image, are women more likely to remain stuck in the false self + is this why they are less likely [as a sex] to achieve spiritual realization.

This not only applies to the female population here, but being as most women are more intuitive and in touch with their feelings and emotions, I have to say that especially due to the on slaught of pop culture and the media, it's entirely possible. Now, when you look at women from tribes in the bush, what are they doing? Well, they sure as hell ain't watching Entertainment News or carrying Louis Vuitton handbags. They are caring for their families. They are teaching skills of survival, making their own clothes and still have time to focus on their souls. They are strong and insightful. Driven and determined. But yet still have a beauty about them that is just there, without the need of products to enhance. It's all about what is instilled in us. We are taught what is important, and what isn't. It goes back to that question about would you rather be stranded on a deserted island with an extremely attractive person or a extremely intelligent person? Look at some of the answers you get when you ask that, and you'll see what is and isn't valued as important. And it's scary. Then we wonder why there is all this focus on external beauty. I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this one, but I'd sure like to be on a deserted island with one.

I believe that social structure defines what preoccupies us, male or female. I don't believe self image, psychological or other, is gender based. Emotion can be a powerful component in constructing a concrete self image, quite possibly a required one.
Unfortunately, we live in a time where self image vies with public image. This social dynamic can create a paradox with personal identity. If one can remain vigilante in who they are, without regard to criticism, the fabricated self joins company with philosophers of the highest caliber.

OK...
"spiritual philosophers of the highest calibre"

Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil"

aphorism 84:
Woman learns to hate to the extent to which her charms---decrease

aphorism 86:
Woman themselves always still have in the background of all personal vanity an impersonal contempt---for "woman"

aphorism 115:
Where neither love nor hatred is in the game, a woman's game is mediocre.

aphorism 127:
Science offends the modesty of all true women. It makes them feel as if one wanted to peep under their skin---yet worse, under their dress and finery.

aphorism 144:
When a woman has scholarly inclinations there is usuall something wrong with her sexually. Sterility itself disposes one toward a certain masculinity of taste; for man is "the sterile animal".

aphorism 145:
Comparing man and woman on the whole, one may say: woman would not have the genius for finery if she did not have an instinct for a secondary role."

That's my response as a female with an entrenched *rolls eyes* psychological self image.

Sounds to me like you just got a hold of a bunch of buzz words and threw them together in an attempt to ask a question that could be easily stated as "Do women make themselves insecure?"
