I have this laptop, it has 128mb of ram and it's 700mhz. I bought a usb DVD drive for it and tried playing a dvd on it. The dvd played alright, but it would slightly skip every 2 seconds no matter what dvd I played. When I plugged it in my usb port, it says something about my usb port can preform faster. So my question is, If I got a USB 2.0 adaptor would my dvds play good on the dvd drive? Thanks

You have to understand that the USB connection is not the only thing that matters. Since your laptop is 700MHz I'm assuming it's probably using PC133 memory which is becoming more expensive and obsolete. Even so, the embedded graphics chip probably is another bottleneck.

With the amount of data on a DVD you should have the following system specifications.

Intel or AMD 1.6 GHz Processor
1GB RAM
Video Adapter with at least 64MB of Video RAM

You can try upgrading the memory but if you want to go to 1GB you'll have to swap out the internal base memory chip and the user accessible memory chip. Cost for memory is about $130.00 for two 512MB PC133 chips. Of course you would have to verify that is the type of memroy you are actually using.

Obvisiously USB 2.0 is fetching data faster, but i'll suggest you to use FIRECABEL instead of USB cause of its data transmission speed in USB Data transmission is limited to 10mb while firecable's data transmission is upto 10GB and it would played your dvd more smothley then usb.
