There are A LOT of factors that can make up a bad marriage. I think two that rate high are infidelity and mental and or verbal abuse. After that the list is huge! Lack of communication which can mean no verbal exchange, one partner not listening to the other at all, one partner or both spending time with friends or going out rather than being with their spouse. Not spending time together can ruin a relationship, especially if friends come before the spouses emotional/physical needs. I'm sure this is the just the tip of the iceberg.

Dishonesty.
In my marriage, I literally awoke during the middle of the night to find my husband with a girl in our hotel bathroom. He had a substance abuse problem and would steal. He would empty the bank accounts, pawn anything of value in the house, steal credit cards from his work (where he would only about a week before he quit), etc. Right at the end, our daughter was a week old and he became physically violent in an attempt to take money for drugs. It's many things that can make a marriage bad. Everyone has their own breaking point. I found mine, and I won't let it get that far ever again.

Some of the core reasons are lack of communication or trust. Without that, a marriage won't last. Abuse or adultery really makes a marriage bad.

There are many examples of things that can go wrong in a marriage to make it a "bad marriage". I believe the most important thing that can go wrong in a marriage to make it unworkable, is for one party to cheat. I can forgive anything else and work on many things, but I cannot forgive infidelity. Infidelity encompasses more than just a physical relationship with another person, it also says that you have no respect for your spouse, among other things. A lot more falls under infidelity, but that is the one act that I cannot move past, thus symbolizing a bad marriage.

The loss of respect for either partner; Trust broken by betrayal; No boundries-- privacy not protected and others know intimate facts about marriage, No Loyalty, Always siding against your mate with someone outside of the marriage such as an N-law, You stop being friends (This occurs often when kids are between ages 1 month and 7 years old), Assuming what the other is thinking instead of talking with him/her, Unwillingness to compromise and let yourself be "wrong" in the little things. Lack of forgiveness and Lack of remorse for mistakes unintentional and intentional.

A bad marriage is where the is no love, no respect at all in the relationship, no communicatio, no love and NO FUN to be with each other, but also when there is abuse and no loyalty at all, then there is not a good marriage .... A good marriage like I consider mine, have respect for each other and for the relationship, we share our good and bad moments, we have a good communication to solve our problems peacefully and we fun together too as a couple and with our familly and of course the most important thing in the relationship is the we love each other more and more since the day we met.!!!!

A marriage is bad when one of them are cheating, but it is a really bad marriage when one is cheating and the other knows and don't care. Or when they are both cheating.
When the two people stop caring is when it is impossible to save it. When they say they hate each other its different, cause you really have to love someone to hate them. But if you told a wife he's cheating and she says I don't care, then there is not the least bit if love left there and and that is a really bad marriage.

I think that every individual has their own definition of a bad marriage depending on what they desire or anticipate. For me, a bad marriage includes loss of communication, respect, loyality, trust, compromise and love. When you lose these factors in a marriage, the bond tends to fall apart I believe.

money problems..cheating..being childish...selfishness...lack of respect for one another...not being honest with one another...porn...sometimes our jobs affects our Marriage ..job stress...spending 8 to 10 hours a day working closely with someone. Even the death of a child can sometimes drive a wedge between a couple.
A good marriage is when two become one. A bad one is when two people drift apart.
