What INCREASE? You're dead wrong if you think that poverty is anything new in the Mid-East and Africa. Poverty has always been nearly universal there, and it's only in recent decades that SOME people have been lifted out of poverty in those places. You can't seriously think that people in Africa were living in luxury a hundred years ago?

The increase in poverty is a result of their being wealth by more people than normal. This is caused by lack of opportunities to make money. In Africa and the Middle East most people are not very well educated and their governments are corrupt. Corruption is a major force in siphoning off money and keeping growth low.

Other factors include drought, lack of natural resources, and military conflict.
