left-handed or right-handed? how to decide?

I've always written with my right hand but i have AWFUL handwritting. then i was told that there might be a chance that i am left-handed and i was switch to write with my right hand, in school, because i went to a catholic school and they thought that ppl who wrote with their left-hand were devil's children or something.
anyway, the thing is how can i know whether i really am left-handed or right-handed? i do a lot of things with my left-hand eg. stir, grab things, reach etc. but i also do stuff with my right hand. also, i can "attempt" to write with my left hand-its not totally impossible to me, unlike to others.
nevertheless, there is a chance that i learnt to use my left-hand through observational learing at a young age because my nanny, who was with well into the age of 12-13, was left-handed!
any suggestions anyone?

this isn't exact science, but it's one way of knowing. i was born left-handed and made to change to my right hand when i started school. i'm now 52, and my left ankle and left thumb always end up on top, showing that i'm still left-hand dominant, no matter that i was taught to write with my right hand. ;)
