download the apple updater (its in itunes7) try that.. reset it, also, charge it on the mains after resetting it.. menu and centre button till apple logo comes up..... try repeatedly switching the 'hold' button on then off, you might have a sticky connection, if dust dirt etc, have got in.....

afraid I can't really help. I've heard numerous stories about iPods packing up spookily about a day after the 1 year warranty runs out - amazing isn't it?
I believe there is some wat to reset the system - maybe someone who replies will know how to do that on a nano.

Its knackered. Sorry. IPods are like guinea pigs, they just die for no reason out of the blue.
You wont get any sympathy from the Apple people. Their standard line is "We dont make them to break. You are just unlucky". Gee thanks Mr Apple...
