The little black number with black stockings!
Little black numbers are invaluable to the more curvacious buxom lady and as for the legs... well show a little of the shape from the knee down with heels.
I bet you look sensational!

I am a bigger woman too. (16 -18) I bought a very nice black velvet dress. It is cut in a semi low "v" at the top. It has a cinched waist and a little slit (just to make walking easier) to just below the knee (so you don't see my legs). Also, it's not just a Christmas dress -- I can wear it all year round, so it is as practical as it is pretty.
Also, if you are worried about your curves (which you shouldn't be), you can try an empire-waist dress. However, if you are short, it could make you look frumpy. Also palazzo pants with a cute shimmery or sequined top will look great with a little cute jacket.

Try a wrap over dress or cowl neck dress. Something that shows off cleavage so stops people looking elsewhere! An eye catching necklace will also draw the attention to that part too.
Make sure you have high heels on as well to make your legs look longer.
Accessories make the outfit and if you get something unusual people will look at that and remember your good taste.

Try on lots of dresses and when you FEEL you look great, YOU DO! Wear with CONFIDENCE and everyone will notice YOU! Heels, stockings, makeup and jewelry to match. Don't worry about "hiding" any part of you, just find a dress that flatters those "curves". You will look STUNNING! Shop happy and have great fun at the party!!!!!!

Sounds like we have similar body shapes... My suggestion would definately be an A-Line dress. Not sure if you want to go short or long, either would be fine, put the shorter is more in style... I'd go with one that's tea length (mid-calf). I'm wearing a black dress with Silver shoes... black is a curvy girl's best friend.

Wrap over dresses are perfect for hiding bits and pieces. Get one with prints rather than plain. There are loads in the shops at the moment.
Just read "salvation"'s answer - yes invest in body shaper (by JML from Boots) or some Bridget Jones pants. Most of the stars wear them and I swear by them.

Try an A-line style dress. Not only will it hide the tummy, it will hide the hips as well! Not to mention, they are very cute!

Honey its not in the dress. Its in the underwear.
Before you go dress shopping get yourself a pair of tummy & bum slimming pants, you can get ones that even shape the thighs. Get yourself a well fitting wonderbra as well and you will look hot in any dress you try.
Have a great party x
