I have an electric dryer-only a couple years old- and the warranty is out. It turns on, runs the full length cycle, spins, and I can feel the air coming thru the back vent. Its hot when I open the dryer door. The clothes wont dry though-still wet after 3-4 cycles. I already have the back dryer panel off (breaker is off) and there doesnt seem to be any blockage, the filter is clean. The wires look okay-they dont look blown or burnt out. I can fix a lot of other things in the house (water heater elements, garbage disposals) and I want to learn how to fix it for the future- so please dont comment to call someone. I need someone to explain what areas to check in a simple format- where to look, what to buy and maybe how to change it. I would greatly appreciate it- today is my only day off!

generally if your heating element is working, which it seems to be because its getting hot, then you aren't moving the moist hot air away from the clothes. Check and make sure that your duct going from the from the dryer and into the wall or wherever it goes is clear and not crimped when you push your dryer back to the wall. Also as a test just disconnect the duct and run the dryer with wet clothes in it, with the duct wide open into the room. If it dries, then the duct will be your problem

HOPE THIS HELPS SOME.

If the dryer is moving air through it and it's hot air, then the problem might just be your washer, not your dryer!

Are your clothes sopping wet when you remove them from the washer, or are they just damp but you can't wring any water out of them?

If the clothes are too wet, the dryer is being overworked in a single cycle - watch the washer and make sure that its going through a full spin cycle and the clothes are coming out partially dry enough for the dryer to finish the job.

I've seen an Infomercial by that Billy something guy, its for dryer cleaning brushes. It says that most of the time, the lint trap doesn't trap all the lint, and it builds up in the delivery vent. I think the brushes were like 4 for $10 so its a cheap place to start.

That's a link for one, but its not the ones I saw on the infomercial.

sounds like your heating element is going out, it works at first, gets to hot and the dryer has a safety shut off. get the model serial number and call a plumbing store or lowes and see if they have a heating element, also check the cord attachments, comes times after rotation so much they work loose.

If you're getting heat and the drum is rotating then it shoud dry your clothes. One thing to check is to make sure the vent is not clogged so that you have a good vent to the outside. You need to go outside when it is running to check that warm air is coming out of the vent. Good luck.

Here is a link I found on Electric Dryers that helped me replace the heating element in my dryer when it went out a few weeks back.

Hope it helps!

check to see that the vent in the wall is not blocked and the moist air can escape.
